If you’ve been dreaming of a unique holiday in a beach house in Greece, Corfu Island is an excellent choice! With its breathtaking beaches, stunning landscapes, historical sites, and lush greenery, Corfu is undeniably the ideal place for a Greek seaside holiday. However, before you choose your beach villa in Corfu, it’s important to check a few key things to ensure your expectations match reality – especially when it comes to Corfu Island!

A House by the Beach in Corfu – Really?

Often, your definition of a “house by the sea” may not align with that of the villa owners. Be aware that not every villa advertised as a “beach villa in Corfu” is situated right on the beach. Many times, there’s a road that separates the villa from the beach, creating a gap between the house and the sea. Imagine dreaming of a holiday on a secluded beach in Greece, only to be greeted by the noise of cars and trucks outside your door. When choosing villas by the sea in Corfu, it’s crucial to ensure that they are truly located by the beach. Most of Corfu has a road separating homes from the sea. Use Google Maps to check the location and confirm with the property owners that there’s no road between the villa and the beach!

Check the Beach Accessibility Near the Villa!

If you plan on enjoying the sea during your holiday, it’s important to make sure that the beach near the villa is suitable for swimming. Some beaches in Corfu are rocky with difficult access to the water, making them less ideal for swimming – particularly if you’re on a family holiday with children. Ensure that the beach access from the villa is easy and try to get photos of the pathway to the sea from the property.

Sandy beach villa in Corfu - Free of Sea Urchins!

Some of Corfu’s beaches are known for having sea urchins, which can make swimming less pleasant. It’s recommended to ask the villa owners whether the beach is free from sea urchins. Sea urchins are generally found on rocky beaches, so if the beach near the villa is sandy, you can rest assured. If you’re looking for sandy beaches, we highly recommend renting a seafront villa in south Corfu.

The eastern Coast or the Western Coast – Where are the Best Beach Villas in Corfu?

Before booking the villa, it’s important to understand its location. Corfu has two main sides – the western and the eastern coasts. The eastern side is more sheltered, with calmer waters and is very suitable for swimming. Additionally, the water here tends to be warmer. On the other hand, the western side is more exposed, with waves and currents, which you’ll need to take into consideration. The water here is also cooler. Many times, people book a villa by the beach without realizing that the beach next to it might not be calm enough for swimming.

Check the Quality of the Beds and Mattresses!

Unlike hotels, where beds and mattresses are usually comfortable, many holiday villas for rent in Corfu have the opposite. Many villas in Corfu offer old metal beds and outdated spring mattresses that aren’t always comfortable for sleeping. Make sure that the beds in the villa you choose are comfortable and that the mattresses are of good quality!
